Don’t risk travelling uninsured

Over a third of Brits have travelled without insurance (37%) according to research commissioned by Tesco Travel Insurance.

Tesco Travel Insurance warns holiday makers of the dangers of travelling uninsured as new legislation comes into force making travel insurance less readily available from high street travel agencies.

Travel agents are now required to be authorised by the FSA (Financial Services Authority) if they want to sell travel insurance. As a result, many will stop offering the service, potentially leaving the 16% of
holidaymakers who relied on buying travel insurance from their travel agent for their last trip abroad, exposed.

There is a perception among holiday-makers that they are more at risk the further away from home they travel. Less than a fifth would buy insurance for a holiday in Ireland, while 79% would buy insurance for a holiday to Europe, rising to 82% for long haul travellers. The three most common holiday problems are: delayed flight, accident or health problem and cancelled flight.
